<SonalPhoto Frames from CD Boxes

You will need:

Empty CD boxes
Scissors and glue
Craft supplies and household bits and pieces (see suggestions below)

We always seem to have empty CD boxes lying around – and if you don’t, you can buy them very cheaply at computer or record stores.

Instructions:

Open your CD box and take out the paper inserts and the molded plastic piece into which the CD itself fits.

Cut your photo to just smaller than the box. You will be fitting it into the back of the box with the hinged edge at the top, so about 4 inches wide and 4 ¾ inches high is perfect, but don’t worry too much! Fix the photo against the plastic with a few small pieces of sticky-tape. Find a nice piece of cardboard, gift wrap or fun foam which will complement your design and cut this to fit snugly behind the photo and to the edges of the frame (4 ¾ inches wide, 5 ¼ inches high). Fix with glue or sticky-tape with the pattern, if any, facing into the box. When your frame is finished you will open the box out to stand it up, so this backing protects your photo.

Now all you need to do is draw a line of glue on the outside edges of the front of the CD box and start decorating! Use whatever you have to hand. You can build on the theme of the photo, the season, or the particular interests of the recipient. Our examples above are obviously on a Christmas theme.

<SonalName Magnets

Kids love to see their own name, and with this craft they can make some really effective magnets to display their own artwork on the fridge - or to give as a gift to siblings or for Mother's Day, Father's Day or Grandparent's Day.

You will need:

Modelling clay (such as Fimo) in assorted colors
Craft magnets
Strong glue

Roll some clay to a thick sausage in your hands and shape in to the letters of your chosen name - your child's, or the name of the recipient of the gift.

Decorate the letters by mixing two different colored clays together to create a marbled effect, or using scraps of another color to make dots or strips to press on to a letter.

Bake the clay following the manufacturer’s instructions. When hard and cool use strong glue to attach a magnet to the back.

<SonalFoam Heart Photo Frame

This quick and easy foam heart photo frame uses pre-cut bought foam hearts. It is a quick and easy gift idea for all sorts of occasions, and if you stick a magnet to the back, looks great on the fridge!

You will need:

Pink, red and white craft foam hearts (you can cut your own but it is easy to pick up bags of die-cut shapes)
Pink craft foam
Glue
Photo (passport size)
Card
Magnet
Double sided sticky tape
Glue

Instructions:

Cut out a heart shape from the pink foam. Now cut out a smaller heart from the middle. Don't worry too much about the shape as it will be covered up.

Glue the foam hearts to the heart frame, overlapping them and covering all of the frame. Leave to dry.

When the glue is dry use double sided sticky tape to stick your photo to the back of the frame.

Cut a piece of card the same size as the frame and stick it on to the back with double sided tape.

Finally glue a magnet on to the middle of the card.

<SonalWitch's Hat

You will need:

A large sheet of black card
Sticky tape
Green crepe paper (or yellow or black wool/yarn)
A piece of string and a pencil to draw your arc - optional

Instructions:

Draw an arc, either freehand or using your pencil and string, from one corner of the black card to part way along the opposite long side, to form a quarter of a circle. Cut along the line. Roll this quarter circle into a cone big enough to fit on the witch’s head and tape together.

Stand the hat on the remaining card and draw around the base (circle 1). Decide on the width of the brim you would like, and draw another bigger circle around circle 1 to make the brim (circle 2). Cut out circle 2.

Draw a third circle (circle 3) about 2cm (1 inch) inside circle 1. Cut along this line.

Cut small slits at approximately 2cm (1 inch) intervals between circle 3 and circle 1 to form flaps. Crease them along the line of circle 1.
Now stand the cone onto the brim, and fold the flaps up inside the hat, taping them in place.

Cut the crepe paper into strips and tape these inside the hat so that they hang down to form hair.
